Tuesday 16th May "Green Berlin and Mobility Transition", Company tours

Morning

In the "Gardens of the World", we embark on a world tour in just one day and discover this special place of international garden art. A guided tour of the grounds will give us a first insight into the history of its creation and development. Afterwards, we will explore one or the other of the eleven themed gardens on our own. Of course, we won't miss a ride on the cable car and enjoy the spectacular view of exotic flowers and plants from a height of up to 35 metres and the view of the whole of Berlin at the intermediate station at Wolkenhain.
Afterwards, everyone can explore the grounds individually for as long as they like.
20 EUR

Or take a more active sightseeing trip on our guided bicycle tour. From the Kulturbrauerei, our approximately 23 km long bike tour will start through four Berlin districts and will take us past various places where the "Verkehrswende" (mobility transition) has already visibly taken shape. During the ride, we will experience the most diverse facets of Berlin. On the way, there will be the opportunity to stop for a snack in one of the many local restaurants along our route. At the end of the bike tour, we will ride across Tempelhofer Feld before taking the S-Bahn back to Kulturbrauerei.
20 EUR incl. bike hire
German tour with english summaries. We have reserved large frame bikes and rental helmets are also available.

Another unique example of mobility transition: Visit the terminal and apron of Berlin-Tegel airport. Since the opening of BER, the old capitol airport at Tegel is lying dormant and is about to be transformed.
Over the next few years, a research and industrial park for urban technologies will be built on the site: Berlin TXL - The Urban Tech Republic, a new residential district: the Schumacher Quartier and a large landscape area.
The guided tour of the former airport invites anyone interested to experience the site from a new perspective and discover the unknown. The walk takes you along the iconic architecture of the building ensemble designed by Meinhard von Gerkan, Volkwin Marg and Klaus Nickels (gmp) and constructed from 1969 to 1975, opening up a fascinating panorama of the airfield.
15 EUR
Bi-lingual tour or seperate english tour if enough bookings are reached.

Afternoon

No desire for "green" or "outside"? We have a suggestion for that, too. We visit the KPM Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur, one of Berlin's most important traditional companies. During the guided tour "handmade in Berlin" we learn a lot about the production of porcelain from the mass to the painting, but also about the history of the company through the ages to the challenges of today. We learn what it means to make a product by hand nowadays and get to know the differences to industrially produced porcelain. English tour.

rbb Rundfunk Berlin Brandenburg is the public broadcaster within the ARD for the Berlin/Brandenburg area.
The guided tour of the rbb site in Berlin includes insights into the areas of television, radio and online. Among other things, we will learn how a television news programme is produced, what ARD stands for and what role rbb plays in this.
The almost 100-year-old "Haus des Rundfunks" will also be part of the tour, where we will visit a radio broadcasting studio and part of the radio play studio. A look into the "Großer Sendesaal" - the largest radio production studio in Europe - will also be part of the tour, as well as an outline of the eventful history of this architectural jewel built during the Weimar Republic. Lastly, the beer drinkers amongst you may know the "Berliner Weisse" or "Champagne Du Nord" as Napoleon´s troops called it. Sample six different varieties of this speciality during a bi-lingual tasting session at a local brewery.

Evening

In the evening, let´s go to the movies! In the district of Charlottenburg - always known as a place of poets, thinkers, art and culture - we visit a small, lovingly modernised art house cinema typical of Berlin.
The film "Run Lola Run" from 1998 by director Tom Tykwer is shown especially for us. In a fast-paced, intelligently told story about love, money and gangsters, Lola runs through Berlin and we discover a lot of "Kiez" and characters of the big city alongside familiar tourist paths. Film in german with english subtitles.
After the film there will be a refreshing drink (included) in the foyer and we hope for lively conversations about what we have seen.
