In addition to descriptions of the programme items with meeting points, times and map extracts, it also contains lots of information about your stay in Duisburg and a list of shopping opportunities for tall people.

Navigation

Important: Street names can exist multiple times, so have the 'Postleitzahl' (post code/ZIP-code) ready in addition to the street address and town when navigating e.g. for Duisburg city centre '47051'. Also, the house numbers are not always distributed in a logical fashion, so a navigation system is highly recommended when navigating the city.

We will provide you with online navigation for the European meeting.

Public transport

Public transport in Duisburg and the surrounding area, even when travelling from Düsseldorf, works under the umbrella of the VRR www.vrr.de/en/tickets-fares/ticket-overview/. All local modes of transport (bus, tram, underground, local Trains like 'S-Bahn' (Metro), 'Regionalbahn' or 'Regionalexpress') are covered by the VRR tickets and the system works with fare zones. A single trip can involve a change of transport, but may not circle back.
Many Germans may use the 'Deutschland Ticket', but everyone else will have to buy bus and train tickets. Unfortunately, there are no weekly or multi-day tickets available but 4 trip tickets (also usable as 4 person 1 trip ticket) and 24h tickets.
Single tickets you can buy from the bus driver. The best place to buy tickets for public transport is at the DVG customer centre (www.dvg-duisburg.de) at Harry-Epstein-Platz, 47051 Duisburg or at the ticket machine in front of the building and at the underground stations. 4 trip tickets and 24-hour tickets for up to 5 people are also available from the ticket machines.
All tickets purchased from the ticket machines must be validated at the stamping machine before travelling / first use! The penalty fare is 60 EUR, plainclothes and uniformed ticket inspectors operate on the network. In busses you are expected to board at the front and show your validated ticket.
The VRR has it´s own timetable app www.vrr.de/en/timetable-mobility/vrr-app/.
